Bowel Cancer Awareness Month - April 2018
April is Bowel Cancer Awareness Week. Bowel cancer is the second most common cause of death due to cancer in Ireland. However, if caught early, it can be treated. Bowel health is important.
Here are some common symptoms of bowel cancer:
– blood in the stool
– a long-term change in bowel habit (either constipation or diarrhoea)
– unexplained weight loss
– pain and/or discomfort in your stomach.
It is important to remember that these symptoms can be caused by issues other than cancer; if you are worried, always contact your doctor.
There are ways to reduce your risk of developing bowel cancer:
– healthy diet
– healthy weight
– not smoking and quitting if you do smoke
– avoiding excessive drinking.
As always, our pharmacists are happy to answer any of your questions, either in-store or through our Pharmachat service online at www.stratushealthcare.ie.
