For the dietary management of colic and constipation in babies
If you suspect your baby has either colic or constipation, the first thing to do is to speak to your healthcare professional as there are often ways to relieve symptoms without changing your baby’s feed. If advised by your healthcare professional, you may want to consider Aptamil Comfort; a food for special medical purposes, formulated for the dietary management of colic and constipation in babies who are being bottlefed.
Signs of colic
- 2–3 hour spells of loud crying, often 15 minutes after feeding. As a guide, colic usually involves repeated excessive and inconsolable crying which lasts for 3 hours or more a day, on at least 3 days a week, for more than 3 weeks. Crying is often high-pitched and frantic and happens more in the late afternoon and evening.
- Flushed face
- Clenched fists
- Legs pulled up to the chest
Colic can occur any time in the first few weeks after birth but usually disappears by the time your baby is 3 months old.
